Blog #8: LAST BLOG! I promise!
Yep. This is the last blog for this class. (For Edward, this is his last blog ever. For clarification, check out the title of his blog.)
And this isn't even a normal kind of blog but rather a reflection of blogging.
Yes. I have an obsession with thinking critically about our writing processes. I can't help it. I think I was born with this obsession.
So here's what I want you to address in this blog:
And this isn't even a normal kind of blog but rather a reflection of blogging.
Yes. I have an obsession with thinking critically about our writing processes. I can't help it. I think I was born with this obsession.
So here's what I want you to address in this blog:
• Introduction
of Gee’s contention that a discourse is actually an identity kit. Do not simply
quote him. Instead, quote him and explain what he means. ~
• A
description of the scope of the blog assignment in order to create context.
Include a discussion of how this blog required you to create an identity to
present to an audience. ~
• Description
of the audience you envisioned. Most of you envisioned this class. What
characteristics did you imagine this class having. Be specific. What underlying assumptions did you count on
in this audience?
• Analysis
of the identity kit you created by describing specific examples from your blog
that describe how your layout, font, images, tone, sentence length, and
vocabulary created this identity kit. This would include quoting yourself,
describing the layout, or inserting images that you chose. What type of person
did you want to seem like? ~
• Analyze
of the strategies you used to appeal to readers. Or did you do this? Why or why
not? What did it feel like when people responded to you? Or did you check? How did it feel if you didn’t get responses?
• Discussion
of any challenges you experienced in blogging including the adoption of a new
genre. You might also include time constraints or inconsistencies. Discuss
changes you made to the blog so that it created an improved “presentation of
self.” ~
• Analysis
of the Devitt’s claim that adopting a genre requires adoption of the values
inherent in that genre. What are the values reinforced in blogs? Identify and
describe those values and how they are reinforced. Identify and describe the
values minimized by blogs and how they are minimized? What aspects of this assignment may have
changed the values reinforced or minimized by the genre?
Mmm. Hmm. Do this like a blog. Create your own take on these topics.
And this one is worth 20 points.
Due Monday 8/14.
